Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has launched operations in Spain, opening a new office in Madrid.

Ignacio Almazan, who has 20 years’ insurance industry experience at RSA, Willis and Aon, has been named Country Manager.

“Putting down roots in Spain enhances our ability to service both local customers and multinationals in Europe,” said UK and Europe President – and BHSI’s former Australia and New Zealand president – Chris Colahan.

BHSI will initially underwrite property, casualty, financial lines, construction and engineering insurance, but expects to expand product lines and services.
