Aon has promoted Steve McGill to the new role of group president, alongside his duties as chairman and CEO of Aon Risk Solutions, the company’s broking and risk management division.

Mr McGill will be responsible for overall growth strategy and opportunity planning, with a primary focus on building Aon Risk Solutions and reinsurance brokerage Aon Benfield.

The role extends Mr McGill’s influence across the wider company, and marks him as a likely successor to Aon President and CEO Greg Case.

Mr Case – to whom Mr McGill will continue to report – said “Steve is an exceptional leader. He has been instrumental in developing our teams and building Aon Risk Solutions into the pre-eminent risk management and insurance brokerage firm in the world today.”

Mr McGill was CEO of rival broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson before joining Aon in 2005.
