Aon plots terrorism risk
The overall threat of terrorism has not changed in the past year but it has moved around a little, according to global insurance giant Aon.
The latest version of the company’s terrorism risk map shows that five countries face an increased threat in 2006.
Denmark, the source of several inflammatory cartoons earlier this year, now faces an “elevated risk”, upgraded from “guarded” in 2005. Egypt, upgraded to “high risk” from “elevated risk”, is already living the nightmare of increased terrorism. More than 20 people died last week when apparently connected explosions rocked the resort city of Dahab.
Jordan, Mauritania and Uzbekistan are the other countries whose terrorism risk has increased over the past year.
Despite the co-ordinated bombing attacks in London last July, Aon says the UK remains only in a state of “elevated risk”.
