Aon joins commissions rollback
The top US insurance brokers are rolling back their blanket ban on contingent commissions, with Aon announcing a deal with regulators to allow it to accept the commissions when it acts as a managing general agent for a single insurer.
Rival brokers Marsh and Willis have reached similar agreements with the regulators in New York, Illinois and Connecticut, altering the “no contingent commissions” deals they signed with regulators early last year.
Aon President and CEO Greg Case says contingent commissions are appropriate in some circumstances. “The amendment will give Aon more flexibility to structure its relationships with insurers to the mutual benefit of Aon, insurers and the ultimate insureds.”
