Air France disaster could result in $US1 billion liability
The loss of Air France flight AF447 in the mid-Atlantic last week could result in insured losses of more than $US1 billion ($1.25 billion), according to international industry observers.
The hull of the Airbus 330-220 is valued at around $US100 million ($125 million), with the bulk of the liability attributed to the 228 people killed in the incident.
The Air France jet crashed into the sea during stormy weather on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1, killing all 216 passengers and 12 crew.
French insurance giant Axa has confirmed it is the aircraft’s lead insurer.
