AIG’s Benmosche flags Chartis name change

AIG CEO Robert Benmosche has confirmed the group is considering dropping the Chartis brand and renaming it AIG.

As the giant US insurer emerges from a government bailout the group is considering “being just AIG”, Mr Benmosche said in New York last week.

Chartis Global Commercial Insurance CEO John Doyle revealed the proposal last month, saying the Chartis name has failed to establish a market foothold.

AIG’s global property and casualty business changed its name to Chartis in 2009 following the US Government bailout of the parent company in the global financial crisis.

Much of the debt has been repaid and Mr Benmosche said last week that AIG “should be proud of what it has accomplished”.
