US agencies embrace Australian aerial imaging firm Nearmap
ASX-listed Nearmap says its aerial imaging solution is being embraced by many US government organisations, including urban planning, transportation, emergency management, law enforcement and water resource management.
Nearmap expects its 2022 contract value to be at the upper end of a $150-$160 million guidance range, up from $128.2 million last year.
“We’re finding more and more government entities want to embed our imagery and artificial intelligence data into their workflows,” Nearmap GM of North America Tony Agresta said.
Nearmap captures wide-scale urban areas in Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada several times each year, making current content instantly available in the cloud via web app or API integration. Government entities across 31 US states and two provinces in Canada have added to its revenue.
Sydney-based Nearmap was founded in 2007 and recently launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) product that it says will provide insurers with increased accuracy and speed to access critical data.
Called Nearmap AI, the product offers datasets constructed from machine-learning models deployed across its high-definition aerial images. The datasets allow users to identify surrounding ground features such as residential building footprints and the characteristics of physical assets such as houses, pools and fences.
CEO Rob Newman is optimistic about further opportunities to scale-up the business in North America and provide additional premium content, including geospatial 3D and AI data sets.
