Honey takes out 2023 Finnies award

Honey Insurance has won this year’s Excellence in Insurtech category, which is sponsored by IAG Firemark Ventures, at the FinTech Australia Finnies Awards.

The awards were announced on Wednesday night at The Forum in Melbourne.

Honey COO Angelo Azar says the win was "a true reflection of the amazing people on our team, and a cause truly focused on how we can make things better for our customers and partners”.

“It is so humbling to see that the judges agree with us. Insurance can live in the spotlight and we can continue to do a lot more amazing things for customers, this is a reminder of that,” he said.

In the running for the insurtech category were finalists Butter Insurance, technology solutions provider Credit Clear, Downsizer, transport industry claims manager FreightSafe, Hollard-backed Open Insurance, uBind and last year’s winner pay-per-kilometre car insurer Koba Insurance.

Butter Co-founder Cassie Bell was also a finalist in the emerging fintech leader of the year category, won by Lumi CTO Paul Pagna. Butter launched subscription cover for nominated possessions like smart phones, ear pods, watches and laptops last year.

“The industry has hit a level of maturity where there’s achievement across the board,” FinTech Australia GM Rehan D’Almedia said. “Congratulations to all the winners of the Finnies Awards 2023. Your contributions to the Australian fintech industry are remarkable and you deserve all this recognition.”
