Honey, Entsia founders make insurtech CEO top 20
Entsia’s Alistair McElligott and Honey Insurance’s Richard Joffe have made US magazine Technology Innovators’ global list of the top 20 insurtech CEOs.
Mr McElligott founded Entsia in 2011 “with the goal of providing a scalable, efficient, and future-proofed insurance distribution and administration platform”.
“His journey began with first-hand experience working in-house for a diverse range of insurers, where he identified the inefficiencies and high costs associated with traditional insurance solutions,” Entsia said.
Honey was launched in mid 2021. Mr Joffe, who co-founded two start-ups in the US, moved here in 2019 and said Australians “deserve a sweeter deal”, hence the insurtech’s name.
It is underwritten by RACQ and backed by AGL, Metricon, Afterpay co-founder Anthony Eisen, Airtasker co-founder Tim Fung, and more. It completed a $108 million funding round in April.
Honey incentivises policyholders to use smart home technology, including sensors that can detect preventable incidents such as fire, water damage or even theft.
