CFC posts online ransomware loss estimate calculator

Cyber specialist CFC has introduced an online “ransomware calculator” that crunches an instant loss estimate indicating how much an attack might set a business back.

UK-based CFC says ransomware attacks are a disproportionately expensive type of cyber event, accounting for 81% of all cyber-related losses last year.

CFC’s calculator has been built with analysis of thousands of cyber events handled over the last two decades. It gives users low, medium, and high severity ransomware loss estimates based on just a few pieces of business information: industry, annual revenue and number of employees.

It also generates a custom report explaining the methodology used.

“Try it out and help your clients get to grips with the single biggest cyber threat facing their business today,” CFC said.

The cost of a ransomware attack to an individual business depends on their industry sector and size, and other factors such as how long they were out of action or whether sensitive data was stolen.

In recent years, ransomware attacks have grown in frequency and severity and it is now common to see demands in the millions. Other associated costs, such as system damage and income loss, can be equally high.
