Case studies validate predictions, FloodMapp says

FloodMapp says an analysis of recent inundations shows its technology has provided “unprecedented accuracy” in forecasting and risk management in Australia.

A “validation report” from the insurtech sets out how its models have been used to enhance flood risk management strategies and emergency response plans.

It compares predicted flood data against actual river gauge measurements, aerial and ground-level imagery including drone footage, CCTV cameras, high-water marks, satellite images and media.

“Our rigorous validation process ensures the accuracy and reliability of FloodMapp’s models,” it says. “These data sources must be accurately timed and geolocated to verify the precision of our model outputs.”

The report examines recent floods in Gympie, Maryborough, Hawkesbury/Windsor, Lismore, Brisbane (2022 and 2024), Gold Coast, Dubbo, Camden and Sydney’s Narrabeen Lagoon, plus two cyclones – Jasper in north-east Australia and Kirrily in Queensland’s Georgetown.
