Zurich veteran returns as NZ manager

Zurich has appointed former executive Adrian Sweeney as its GM of New Zealand.

Mr Sweeney held several leadership roles across 25 years with the company, including head of operations for the London team between 2003 and 2005 and chief risk officer from 2005 to 2009.

He later became chief underwriting officer for Asia-Pacific, from 2012 to 2017. During this time, he also took on underwriting portfolios for Zurich’s global corporate and commercial insurance operations.

After departing the company, Mr Sweeney joined RSA Insurance Group’s UK leadership team as chief underwriting officer. Most recently, he served as underwriting manager for Delta Insurance, before taking a career break at the end of 2022.

Zurich Australia and New Zealand Head of General Insurance Alex Morgan has welcomed Mr Sweeney’s return, saying he brings a “strong breadth of global experience”.

Mr Sweeney will replace Brett Wainhouse, who was recently appointed State Manager for Zurich Australia’s Victoria and Tasmania team.
