Zurich names new local general insurance head

Zurich has promoted Alex Morgan to the role of Head of General Insurance, Australia & New Zealand, replacing Sean Walker who will relocate from Sydney to Singapore to take the newly created role of Head of Commercial Insurance & Chief Technical Officer (APAC).

Mr Walker becomes a member of the Zurich Group Leadership and Global Commercial Insurance Leadership teams.

The appointments are effective from August.

“Sean’s appointment represents ... a meaningful and important strategic step for Zurich in the region,” Zurich Australia & New Zealand CEO Justin Delaney said.

“I am very pleased to welcome Alex to our leadership team. As the only major composite – life and general – insurer in the market, this is a critical appointment,” Mr Delaney said.

Sydney-based Mr Morgan has spent over a decade at Zurich and is currently Chief Risk Officer, Zurich Asia Pacific.

In his new role working with local markets, he will be responsible for regional general insurance strategy and consolidating and enhancing Zurich’s underwriting and claims capabilities across APAC.

"With a strong understanding of the local market, together with broad global and regional experience, Alex will bring both continuity and a fresh perspective as we seek to further advance our customer offering and competitive position,” Mr Delaney said.

Mr Morgan was formerly Zurich’s Chief Underwriting Officer Asia Pacific, Head of Retail (Consumer, SME & MGAs), Head of Specialty Asia Pacific in Singapore, Chief Underwriting Officer - Global Corporate Japan in Tokyo, and Head of Financial Institutions and Management Liability in London.
