Vero, GIO name RM Advancer winners

Bega Cheese and Costa Group have been named winners of the 16th RM Advancer Awards, which recognise exceptional risk management among Vero and GIO workers’ compensation clients and brokers.

The two businesses were crowned last night at Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building.

GIO says it was “proud to continue the tradition of showcasing the roles that risk managers play in protecting their organisations”.

Bega Cheese won the commercial category for making more than 200 risk improvements and funding ongoing hazard reduction.

Fruit and vegetable company Costa won the workers’ compensation and public liability category after its mitigation efforts reduced heat stress and manual handling injuries, and it also introduced employee support officers.

Its property business received an honourable mention for testing to ensure its greenhouses can withstand severe hail. That test data is now used by global glass manufacturers.

“This year’s awards showcased an impressive display of forward-thinking risk management, using resources like technology and automation to plan for emerging risks over the coming years,” Suncorp CEO of commercial and personal injury Michael Miller said. “Both our winners exemplify the importance of keeping risk management front of mind in safeguarding their businesses.”
