Tributes paid to founder of Melbourne brokerage
Marty Owen, founding director of Malvern East brokerage Philp, Newby & Owen, has died following a long battle with illness.
Mr Owen established the business, which now trades as PNOinsurance, in 1977 and worked as MD prior to his retirement in 2016. He also served on the Insurance Brokers Network Australia (IBNA) board for many years.

He was “committed and passionate” about the insurance broking profession to which he dedicated almost 40 years of his life.
PNO Director Peter Conquest told insuranceNEWS.com.au Mr Owen had been a hugely influential and popular figure.
“He was extremely well respected by both underwriters and brokers, and clients really appreciated his technical knowledge,” he said.
IBNA Chairman Gary Gribbin told insuranceNEWS.com.au Mr Owen was “an outstanding director” for the broker network.
“He was imaginative and sophisticated, and very engaging and enthusiastic,” he said.
“He was a genuinely good man.”
Mr Owen leaves his wife Susan.
