‘The Pride has lost a leader’: Lion Underwriting Director dies

Ralph Dissell, a Director at Lion Underwriting, has died after a short battle with cancer.

Beginning his insurance career in South Africa, Brisbane-based Mr Dissell moved to Australia about two decades ago after selling a reinsurance broking business to an offshore firm.

He joined Lion in 2016, when he was appointed Director – Management and Compliance.

MD Kurt Nilsen tells insuranceNEWS.com.au Mr Dissell scaled back his day-to-day involvement in Lion last year, planning to spend more time with family, travelling and indulging his passion for flying light aircraft.

“Ralph was a true gentleman, very well-liked and respected by industry peers,” Mr Nilsen said. “The Pride have lost one of their leaders.”

He is survived by wife Helen, son Ryan and granddaughter Mila. The family has requested donations to Guide Dogs Queensland, which can be made here, in lieu of flowers.

Friends are welcome to join a celebration of Mr Dissell’s life on Sunday from 11am at 2316 Belmont Court, Hope Island, Gold Coast. Please RSVP for catering purposes to kurt@lionunderwriting.com.au.
