Suncorp joins restoration trade body
The Restoration Industry Association of Australasia says Suncorp has become an associate member – the first Australian general insurer to join the non-profit trade body.
“Suncorp’s membership comes at a critical time for the insurance and restoration sectors,” association chair Brodie West said. “Recent House of Representatives and Senate inquiries have highlighted expectations that insurers and their service providers must improve claims management and outcomes for customers, especially following natural disasters.
“The RIA and its members bring unique insights to disaster recovery. The RIA expects it will work closely with individual insurers and the wider insurance sector to help deliver on these requirements.”
Ms West says she is in talks with other insurers and expects more will soon join the association.
The US-founded group says it is the world’s oldest and largest non-profit trade association for the restoration industry.
In 2019, it formed RIA Inc Australasia to support its work in the region. Last year, the Australasia branch made several recommendations to the federal inquiry into the 2022 floods, suggesting ways to improve outcomes after natural catastrophes.
Suncorp head of assessing and supply chain Steven Hussey says the insurer looks forward to working with the association.
“We are committed to delivering quality outcomes for our customers and recognise the importance of standardised expectations in restoration. As such, we value the opportunity to collaborate with the RIA in its advocacy efforts to advance industry practices.”
