Suncorp CEO joins ICA board

Suncorp CEO Steve Johnston has joined the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) board amid a number of changes announced today after the August meeting.

Hollard Holdings Australia MD Richard Enthoven has been appointed Deputy President, taking over from Tim Plant who has vacated the role and left the board due to his resignation from Zurich Financial Services Australia.

Suncorp CEO Insurance Product & Portfolio Lisa Harrison has stepped down from the board and will become Chairman of ICA’s new Strategy Committee, which will examine issues of strategic policy importance to the general insurance sector.

Frank Costigan has also recently stepped down due to his resignation from QBE, where he has been Interim Australia MD.

“We welcome Steve Johnston to the board of the ICA and look forward to drawing on his broad knowledge of the general insurance industry as well as public policy experience in Australia,” President Sue Houghton said.

“The board would like to thank Frank Costigan, Tim Plant and Lisa Harrison for their strong contributions to the work of the board and look forward to Lisa’s ongoing leadership of the Strategy Committee.”

Mr Johnston became Suncorp CEO in September 2019 after joining the group in 2006 and holding roles including CFO. He has also held senior positions at Telstra and the Queensland Government.

The casual ICA board vacancy left by Mr Plant will be filled at the December meeting.
