Senate committee delays insurance report
A Senate inquiry examining insurance affordability and availability has delayed the publication of its final report for a week.
The Select Committee on the Impact of Climate Risk on Insurance Premiums and Availability was due to report today. But its website confirms that the Senate today “agreed to extend the reporting date to November 26”.
The inquiry was launched in May and has held public hearings in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Ballina.
Insurers, regulators and consumer representatives are among those that have given evidence. Insurance commissions were also discussed after the ABC’s strata exposé brought the issue to the fore.
More than 50 submissions were provided to the committee, which was chaired by Greens deputy leader Mehreen Faruqi.
