QBE veteran Ross Vinen dies

Melbourne-based insurance expert Ross Vinen has died. Mr Vinen, known as Rosco, held various senior management and underwriting positions, specialising in liability insurance, over a career spanning 46 years.

He started as a Property Underwriter in 1969 upon finishing high school and retired in mid 2015 after almost 16 years at QBE, ending as Senior Liability Specialist/Service Manager.

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Ross Vinen,” a QBE spokesperson tells insuranceNEWS.com.au. "Ross was a person of great character and well-known within the industry for his liability expertise.

“He will be remembered as a deeply kind and caring colleague, mentor and friend to those he encountered, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Bellrock Broking Director Jonathan Frost, who knew Mr Vinen for decades, remembers the pair enjoying red wine at the NSW Sports Club on Hunter Street in Sydney.

"He was a great supporter of younger staff particularly, a good mentor teaching them the old ways of insurance as well as the new ways,” Mr Frost tells insuranceNEWS.com.au.

A grandfather, Mr Vinen enjoyed daily gym workouts during retirement and had a passion for AFL and horse racing.
