Mitsui Sumitomo appoints distribution chief, seeks agency partners
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance has appointed David Hall as head of distribution and says it is looking to engage more with underwriting agencies as “a key pillar of its growth strategy”.
Sydney-based Mr Hall was most recently Envest head of mergers, acquisitions and advisory, and formerly spent almost 12 years at Hollard, including as CEO of New Zealand and chief distribution officer for agency and New Zealand. He has also held positions at Marsh, Ando Insurance and Deloitte.
“David joins us with a wealth of experience working with underwriting agencies, both as an insurer representative and as a non-executive director of some of Australia and NZ’s most successful agencies,” MSI Oceania GM Tomoyuki Komagome said.
“With David’s appointment we will be looking to engage further in the underwriting agency sector and support selected partners with their growth aspirations ... Enhancing the level of our engagement with partners is key to our growth strategy, sitting alongside our traditional Japanese business in Australia and New Zealand.”
As insuranceNEWS.com.au has reported, Haven Underwriting launched last month with MSI backing.
Haven was founded by Barnaby Williams, who was most recently GM of Guild Insurance’s intermediated brand Acerta, and who has more than 24 years of underwriting experience.
It launched offering industrial special risk property insurance with more products to follow.
