Liberty’s new leader to speak at Insurance News conference

Liberty International Insurance’s new Australia president John McCabe has joined the roster of experts speaking at the upcoming Insurance News Outlook 2025 conference.

Mr McCabe replaces his colleague, Ben Hissey, on a leaders panel examining key issues facing the industry in the final session of the event, to be held on March 12 in Sydney. Tickets are still available here

As insuranceNEWS.com.au has reported, Mr McCabe, previously COO for Asia-Pacific, will run Liberty Specialty Markets’ business in the country and work with Michael Abdallah during the role transition.

Mr Abdallah, Liberty Specialty Markets president and MD Asia-Pacific since 1999, will become chief underwriting officer for Asia-Pacific, in charge of underwriting across Liberty’s retail, commercial and specialty businesses in the region.

The leaders panel also includes IAG CEO Nick Hawkins, Lloyd’s regional director Chris Mackinnon, Suncorp CEO of commercial and personal injury Michael Miller, and WTW Pacific head of broking Trent Williams (who replaces the previously announced James Baum.)

The conference’s opening session will examine the findings of an exclusive market report, then Hollard Australia founder Richard Enthoven will speak on growth opportunities in Australia.

The affordability challenge in home insurance will be discussed by Insurance Council of Australia GM of regulatory and consumer policy Alexandra Hordern, chief corporate affairs officer for Allianz Nicholas Scofield and the Financial Rights Legal Centre’s Julia Davis.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s credit, banking and general insurance senior executive leader, Nathan Bourne, will outline the regulator’s general insurance priorities. And Australian Financial Complaints Authority GM of code compliance Prue Monument will tackle expectations around transparency.

The event is supported by gold partners Finity and Liberty, and sponsors Allianz, AAMC and Australia Underwriting. Attendees are entitled to five NIBA CPD points and eight ANZIIF CIP points.
