INsight podcast: pool plan uncovered, but some details still murky
The Insurance News podcast panel this week looks in detail at the Federal Government's draft legislation for its upcoming cyclone reinsurance pool, and what it means for the scheme which should be up and running by July.
As insuranceNEWS.com.au has reported, the pool will be mandatory and administered by the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC), which also runs the terrorism reinsurance pool.
Insurers will pay a premium to the ARPC, but as yet there is no information on how premiums will be calculated or how much saving will eventually be passed on to consumers. Consumer groups have also pointed out gaps in the proposed cover.
This week’s edition of INsight, hosted by Insurance News Managing Director Andrew Silcox, features the observations of Insurance News Publisher Terry McMullan, Managing Editor John Deex and Deputy Editor Wendy Pugh.
The podcast also discusses a proposed mutual fund to enable the leisure and amusement industry to access public liability cover, Mansions' decision to axe commissions, and the possibility of a shareholder class action against IAG.
