INsight podcast: paying for loyalty

The decision to ban so-called insurance “loyalty taxes” in the UK is the main discussion point on the latest edition of the Insurance News podcast.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) says renewing customers must not be charged any more than new customers, and stands ready to enforce the change from January, claiming it will save consumers billions of pounds.

Australian insurers also offer what they prefer to call “new customer discounts”, and the INsight panel discusses whether the FCA’s action could be replicated here, and whether the insurers' tactic is just competition in action.

This week’s edition, hosted by Insurance News Managing Director Andrew Silcox, features the observations of Insurance News Publisher Terry McMullan and Managing Editor John Deex.

The podcast also considers Ardonagh's latest expansion drive, pay-per-kilometre car insurance, and Ava, Suncorp's new "digital employee".

You can find a new episode of INsight published here every Wednesday.
