INsight podcast: ICA urges end to ESL hell
The Insurance Council of Australia's (ICA) NSW election campaign is the highlight of the latest episode of the Insurance News podcast.
As previously reported, ICA has published a list of demands for whichever party is successful at the March 25 vote - and top of the list is the abolition of the "unfair" Emergency Services Levy (ESL).
NSW is the last mainland state to still fund its fire service through a levy on insurance premiums, which adds 18% to the cost of home cover and up to 40% to the cost of business cover. Not ideal at a time when insurance affordability is a growing problem.
This week’s edition of INsight, hosted by Insurance News MD Andrew Silcox, features the observations of Chairman Terry McMullan, Managing Editor John Deex, Deputy Editor Wendy Pugh, and Senior Journalist Bernice Han.
The panel also discusses the lastest flood situation in New Zealand, the 267-page Quality of Advice Review final report, and IAG and Suncorp half-year results.
