icare recruits CFO Farquharson from Zurich

NSW state-owned insurer icare has appointed Zurich’s Stuart Farquharson as CFO following executive moves at the end of last year.

Mr Farquharson has been Zurich CFO General Insurance, Australia and New Zealand since 2016 and has also held CFO roles with AIG Australia, Citibank, Manchester Unity and Hollard.

icare CEO Richard Harding says Mr Farquharson will bring a blend of finance and commercial leadership from across the general, life and health insurance sectors.

“He is an experienced CFO with a demonstrated track record of building successful teams, managing transformation, and driving positive commercial outcomes,” Mr Harding said. “We are really pleased Stuart is joining the team.”

Mr Farquharson will start with icare on October 11, with Shailendra Singh to continue as Acting CFO in the meantime. The previous permanent CFO, Rashi Bansal, in December accepted the icare role of Group Executive Insurance for NSW and the Home Building Compensation Fund.

“In his new role at icare, Stuart's immediate priorities will be to review and embed the strategy within Organisational Performance and provide strategic financial direction,” Mr Harding said.

At Zurich Mr Farquharson was responsible for leading the general insurance and shared service finance teams, while at AIG his regional finance responsibilities encompassed Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea.
