ICA heads north again to help Queensland flood victims
The Insurance Council of Australia will return to north Queensland this month to host forums for people affected by the February floods, as claim response work picks up.
Insured losses from the event had reached $233 million as of two weeks ago, with more than 10,000 claims lodged.
The forums at Cardwell on April 29 and Ingham on April 30 will let customers meet with representatives from several insurers to discuss claims and seek additional advice.
There will also be general information on the claims process, complaint avenues and other insurance-related matters.
“While the Insurance Council hosted community forums earlier this year, providing immediate support and advice for community members in the aftermath of this severe flooding event, these additional forums will provide further support for these communities as they continue their recovery,” CEO Andrew Hall said.
“We expect assessment activities and scope of work discussions are well under way at this point in the claim process, but as both Ingham and Cardwell were heavily impacted, it is timely insurers return to work through any questions, issues or concerns.”
Queensland has been hit hard by severe weather this year, with the northern floods followed last month by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which has triggered 94,867 claims and almost $1 billion of losses.
More recently, heavy rain has flooded a swathe of inland Queensland, with high water levels also moving into NSW.
