Hostsure is no more after Miramar merger

Leisure insurance specialist Hostsure Underwriting Agency has been absorbed by fellow Steadfast agency Miramar, reducing coverage options for some clients.

All Hostsure staff will be retained within Steadfast, which says it will announce details of appointments soon.

Hostsure ceased to offer new business from last month. It will issue a decline to renew notice on its liability products and forward the business to Miramar for consideration. Miramar says it will issue a policy invitation “where the risk is congruent” with its underwriting guidelines.

But Miramar won’t offer new business terms on pubs, adult entertainment venues and nightclubs – businesses which Hostsure had offered cover.

Miramar will consider new business enquiries for risks that sat within Hostsure’s community care, selected leisure activities and general liability risk appetite.

“We recognise that the timing of this announcement is not ideal,” a company statement says.

“We appreciate that some brokers will have to face some challenging conversations with their clients to seek alternative markets. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

Hostsure’s specialised leisure and hospitality products catered to bottle shops, hotels, bars and restaurants, motels, guest accommodation and social and recreational clubs, event organisers, tour operators and amusement arcades.

It also offered community care products to childcare centres, aged and respite care, community groups and other not-for-profit organisations, as well as security products for traffic control and private investigators.

“Hostsure is very grateful for the loyal support received over the years,” a company statement said.

The company says that for existing policies there will be no change “in relation to the current period of insurance”.

Miramar policy wording is unchanged from the expiring Hostsure policy wording subject to a new cyber and data exclusion, and a new biosecurity risk listed disease and infectious disease exclusion.

“While the Hostsure agency will progress to run-off, this change will allow the Miramar agency to deliver a consistent broker experience, centred around being more responsive, clearer in our articulation of appetite and more focused on developing relationships with broker clients,” the statement says.

Originally Altiora Insurance Solutions, Hostsure was rebranded in March 2014 after it was bought by Steadfast as part of its initial public offering.
