Honey partners with homes builder

Insurtech Honey Insurance has agreed a home and contents insurance supply deal with Metricon Homes, its second strategic partnership since launching in June.

Honey Founder and CEO Richard Joffe says the Metricon partnership delivers “modern coverage tailor-made for every home”.

“Together we can spearhead a proactive solution that delivers tech-driven home insurance coverage directly into the digital mortgage and title process,” Mr Joffe said.

“If anything were to happen to the home, then Honey and Metricon would work together to ensure it was rebuilt to the original standards which we believe is unique.”

Honey launched in June, targeting the home and contents market after securing $15.5 million in seed funding from AGL and Metricon, as well as underwriting partner RACQ and other institutional investors including Afterpay co-founder and CEO Anthony Eisen, Airtasker co-founder Tim Fung, Mirvac and PEXA.

AGL agreed in August to offer Honey products to customers of the power company who are building a new home, or renting.

Honey describes itself as smart home insurance on a mission to eliminate the majority of avoidable accidents that happen in the home. Customers receive a complimentary Notion Smart Home Sensor Kit valued at $250, and ongoing services to keep homes safer, and are rewarded with 8% off their premiums when the sensors are activated for “being proactive”.

Australians borrowed $4.38 billion in loans to fund home improvements in the past 12 months and Honey says 29% of Australians have proactively increased their home insurance to cover an increase in their property value due to alterations, additions, repairs and rebuilds.

Metricon CEO Mario Biasin says this “rampant demand” in the renovation and homebuilding sector has made having reliable home and contents insurance feel more important than ever.

“We are proud to now offer Metricon customers a streamlined process to protect their home fuelled by innovative connected technologies to take a preventative rather than a reactive approach to incidents,” Mr Biasin said.

The firm, operating since 1976, says 1335 Australian families moved into newly-built Metricon homes in the three months to September 30.
