Former IAG, Zurich exec takes top job at MDA National
MDA National has appointed Tim Plant as CEO, replacing Ian Anderson, who is retiring after more than nine years in the role.
Mr Plant, who will start the job next month, was IAG chief insurance and strategy officer from late 2021 to June last year, according to his LinkedIn. Before that he was Zurich CEO of general insurance in Australia and New Zealand from August 2018 to October 2021.
He also worked at QBE for more than six years, joining in 2010 and rising to become CEO of Australian and New Zealand operations in August 2015.
He joined NSW state insurer icare in March 2017 as group executive of self-insurance, community and innovation, then became group executive of insurance in January 2018 before leaving in July that year.
“Tim’s strong track record of delivering results, coupled with his advanced leadership, collaboration, stakeholder management and communication capabilities, lends well to MDA National’s strategic direction and priorities,” the company said.
MDA National was established in 1925 as a member services organisation. It owns medical indemnity insurer MDA National Insurance, and the two entities make up the MDA National Group.
Its 2023 annual report recorded a consolidated net profit after tax of $11.02 million, compared with a $14.46 million loss the previous year.
MDA National says Mr Plant “understands the critical role that medical indemnity plays in the professional lives of doctors and the confidence with which they provide care to their patients”.
