Don McLardy recognised in King’s Birthday Honours
McLardy McShane CEO Don McLardy was among insurance industry participants recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours as community and charity work was highlighted.
Mr McLardy was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to charitable organisations and to Australian rules football.
The citation notes his role with The Reach Foundation, his position as Jim Stynes Foundation Governor since 2012 and his work as a supporter and fundraiser for Fight MND.
Mr McLardy is a past president and board member of the Melbourne Football Club, and has led brokerage McLardy McShane since 1996.
Community Underwriting Agency CEO and Founder Graeme Berwick was also recognised for service to the community through charitable organisations.
Mr Berwick has been a Meals on Wheels NSW board member and insurance consultant since 2004. He was Willis Australia MD from 1993-2000 and is a past director of the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA). Other roles have included QR Consulting MD.
Alan Wilson Insurance Brokers (AWIB) MD Alan Wilson received an OAM for service to the community through a range of organisations.
Mr Wilson’s service spans the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund, the Andrew Wilson Foundation, Champions of the Bush, the Victorian Bands’ League and the City of Traralgon Brass Band.
The citation says he founded AWIB in 1984, has been a director of Fire Protection Association Australia and a manager of its insurance program, a board member of Regional Insurance Brokers Victoria and a NIBA Victorian committee member. He was an office bearer at the Insurance Institute of Victoria Gippsland Branch in the 1970s.
Sean Gordon, whose roles include Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) Indigenous Advisory Committee Chairman, was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the Indigenous community as an advocate for equity.
ICA extended its congratulations in a LinkedIn post today, saying it was privileged to have Mr Gordon as the committee chairman.
“His leadership steers our journey to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and build a more resilient Australia for all,” ICA said.
QBE Insurance Group board member Yasmin Allen received an AM for significant service to finance and business and to the not-for-profit sector.
Ms Allen, who worked at Deutsche Bank, ANZ Investment Bank and HSBC, has served on a number of past and present boards, including IAG from 2004-2015. She chairs the Harrison Riedel Foundation and has held roles with The Salvation Army, Red Cross Blood Service and Film Australia.
Jane McAloon, an Allianz Australia board member and chairman of the human resources and remuneration committee, was awarded an AM for significant service to the business and energy sectors.
Also honoured was Robert Clynes, who received an OAM for service to the law and legal profession. Mr Clynes worked in insurance law for Minter Ellison Lawyers and was ACT Editor for the Australian Insurance Law Bulletin from 1985-2003, before becoming a barrister.
