Chubb names new Asia-Pacific head as McNamee promoted

Chubb has appointed Marcos Gunn as regional president for Asia-Pacific, with responsibility for the general insurance business in Australia, New Zealand and 11 other markets.

He takes over immediately from Paul McNamee, who is moving to New York as EVP of Chubb Group and president of overseas general insurance.

Mr Gunn was most recently senior VP of Chubb Group and regional president for Latin America, based in Miami. He will move to Singapore for his new posting and will report to Mr McNamee.

“Marcos is an outstanding executive with a long track record of success with our company,” chairman and CEO Evan Greenberg said. “He is returning to Asia with deep knowledge and significant experience in the region.

“Marcos is one of the most creative and entrepreneurial insurance executives I know. He combines a deep knowledge of underwriting, marketing and technology.”

Mr Gunn has more than 25 years’ insurance industry experience. He began his previous role in 2019 after serving as president for northern Latin America and COO for Latin America.

He joined Chubb in 2000 and has served in management roles including VP of accident and health for Asia-Pacific.

Mr McNamee was appointed to lead the Asia-Pacific business in 2016. Before that, he was deputy regional president and EVP for commercial property and casualty in Asia-Pacific.

He joined the company, then named Ace, in 1995 in Australia and was made head of property and technical lines for Asia-Pacific in 2002.

In New York, he will report to the CEO, who called him a “tremendous” underwriter and business leader.

“It is a pleasure to appoint Paul to lead our international general insurance operations,” Mr Greenberg said. “I have worked closely with Paul for many years and watched him grow into a great executive.

“Through his years of experience, he has acquired a great ability to manage a wide variety of commercial and consumer businesses across countries and cultures. He finds a way to win.”
