Brokers must rise to regulatory challenge: NIBA

The wave of regulatory change set to slam into the general insurance industry will be a key focus at the upcoming National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) Convention.

Taking place on the Gold Coast on October 14 and 15, the event includes a "meet the regulators" session with representatives from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority and Insurance Brokers Code Compliance Committee.

NIBA CEO Dallas Booth and Radford Lawyers principal solicitor Mark Radford will then provide a royal commission and regulatory update.

“We will be getting the absolute latest perspective from regulators and these sessions will be of maximum interest to any broker,” Mr Booth told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“This stuff will be coming at brokers in spades over the next 18 months and they need to be across it to do their own strategic planning.

“There is no doubt that the expectations from the regulators, government and community have really gone up several notches and we need to help brokers understand this.”

The convention will also feature a "state of the industry report" from NIBA President Eric Harris and Insurance Council of Australia President Richard Enthoven, and NIBA’s national awards will be presented.

Sessions will be held on issues including the future of transport, internet of things, high-rise building risks, inclusion, hard to place risks and leadership.
