Auto & General appoints new Australia CEO

Auto & General has appointed Adam Crane, formerly the head of ME Bank, as its CEO Insurance Australia from next month.

“Adam brings with him 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry and is the perfect addition to our fast growing Auto & General Insurance Australia business,” the company said today on its LinkedIn page.

Mr Crane was CFO at ME Bank before stepping into the CEO role, his LinkedIn page shows. The business became part of Bank of Queensland. Previously he also worked for around 13 years at Suncorp, where his roles included Head of Strategy and Performance Management.

At a financial services industry level, Mr Crane has been a non-executive director with the Australian Banking Association and was a member of the Industry Super Advisory Council.

Auto & General launched in Australia in 2000 with its Budget Direct brand. The firm’s website shows other brands include Ozicare, First for Women and Oceania while it also underwrites insurance offerings for businesses including Qantas, ING Bank and Virgin Money.

The South African-based insurer in April last year said Group MD and CEO Asia Pacific Ram Kangatharan would take on the role of acting CEO of Insurance Australia while a replacement was found for former local CEO John Myler.
