All change at Marsh as JLT chief takes Leney’s Pacific role
Marsh and JLT are working through further appointments for the Australian businesses after new roles for Nick Harris and Scott Leney were announced in the wake of a takeover deal set to be completed within months.
In changes so far Mr Harris, who is JLT CEO for Australia and New Zealand, will become Marsh Pacific CEO, while Mr Leney, who currently holds that role, will become Head of Australia and report to Mr Harris.
JLT Australia and New Zealand Chairman Andre Louw will become Chairman of Pacific for Marsh.
Further local appointments and arrangements are being finalised as the company secures global anti-trust and regulatory approvals for the merger. Marsh & McLennan has gained JLT shareholder support and is looking to complete the acquisition around April.
Marsh & McLennan announced last September that it was acquiring JLT, creating a global giant with a workforce of some 75,000 and providing the US-based group with a stronger position in the Australian market.
Mr Leney will take up the Australian leadership position after three years helming the Pacific business. Prior to that appointment he was CEO of Marsh Australia. His roles have involved driving growth in New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
A new Marsh-JLT Specialty business will also launch after the merger is bedded down.
London-based JLT Group CEO Dominic Burke will chair Marsh-JLT Specialty, while current JLT Specialty CEO Lucy Clarke will become President.
The business will include energy, credit, marine, financial and professional, private equity and mergers and acquisitions, construction and aerospace.
Marsh is yet to provide details of plans for the public sector area, where JLT has a dominant position in Australia. That JLT division is led at present by Sydney-based Global Head Public Sector Leo Demer.
In other Marsh International appointments, David Jacob will continue as CEO of Asia, with Alan Cheah remaining Chairman and James Adington-Smith, currently the Asia Specialty Leader for Marsh, will report to Mr Jacob as CEO of ASEAN, a sub-region of the Asia division.
