Zurich appoints new general insurance boss
Zurich Financial Services Australia has appointed former AIG executive Shane Doyle as GM General Insurance. He replaces Andrew Barrowman, who is stepping down from the role.
CEO David Smith says Mr Barrowman has decided to return to a “client-facing” role, but will continue in his current role until Mr Doyle joins Zurich in March. The move will allow Mr Barrowman to focus on dealing with key external relationships, an area where he has particular “passion and enjoyment”.
Mr Doyle is a 15-year veteran at AIG and held a number of roles in Europe and the Middle East. Most recently he was Senior VP Regional Manager Financial Lines at AIG UK.
Mr Smith says Mr Doyle’s international background should enable Zurich to capitalise on regional growth opportunities.
“We will be looking for opportunities for the businesses in Australia and NZ to use their expertise to support the emerging region of Asia,” he said.
