Vero wins the gold in NZ business awards
Vero NZ has won the gold medal for the best business practice at the NZ Business Excellence Awards.
The insurer employs 850 staff across NZ and has been striving to win the coveted gold award for 10 years.
CEO Roger Bell says while the company received bronze in 1998 and silver in 2004 for achievement, the criterion for the gold award was based on being “world class”.
The company’s level of achievement was judged against the demanding global Baldridge criteria, which measures strategic planning, leadership, customers, people, process, knowledge and information and results.
It also included a “lengthy audit process by evaluators”, where the business was placed under a microscope and “torn apart”.
Mr Bell says the company’s success was based entirely on its people. “We wouldn’t have had a hope without them,” he said.
Auditors also measured employee levels of engagement. “You need an inspirational goal that they believe in,” Mr Bell said.
