Vero boosts women in its workforce

Vero has turned its focus onto the women in its workforce with a strategy aimed at retaining female staff and attracting more.

EM Marketing Gabriele McDonald, who is spearheading the program, says Vero wants to focus on professional development programs and events tailored specifically for women in the industry.

The three-year diversity strategy aims to increase the number of women in senior roles, achieve pay equity and ensure that Vero becomes an employer of choice for women.

Nearly 60% of the Vero workforce is female, and the initiative is seen as important in reinforcing the company’s position and its future.

Ms McDonald told insuranceNEWS.com.au the diversity strategy “incorporates key milestones on gender diversity, age balance and cultural diversity as well as indigenous and disability programs over the next three years”.

“It’s time we acknowledged women and created activities that engage, interest and help them grow in their professional lives.”

Vero will hold a national series of business seminars in partnership with the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance that are specifically for women. The company will also hold some networking events that appeal to women.

“Our aim is to lead the market by recognising women in our industry and providing specific, relevant opportunities to develop their skills while interacting with female Vero staff,” Ms McDonald said.
