Transport and logistics are essential services, NTI says
Australia’s largest specialist insurer, NTI Ltd, has been working with the Government to help ensure delivery of essential goods like medicine and groceries during the coronavirus crisis.
NTI is taking part in government-led roundtable discussions with leading trucking, rail, maritime and freight organisations to discuss the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on the transport and logistics industries.
“We advocate the need for transport and logistics to continue to be viewed as essential so these goods can reach those who need them,” NTI CEO Tony Clark said.
NTI is backing industry campaigns to keep transport facilities open while ensuring driver fatigue is managed.
Measures the insurer supports are based around ensuring all freight is seen as essential; deeming all transport suppliers, repairer services and manufacturers as essential; stopping increases in charges to transport operators during the crisis; and lifting the asset write-off threshold above $150,000 to allow for the cost of trucks.
