Telstra drives new automotive solution
Experience gained through setting up the Sunrise Exchange network is being used by Telstra in a new automotive industry venture. Telstra e-Business Services, formerly known as InsNet, is planning to provide a similar state-of-the-art e-business network for the automotive industry.
Telstra has purchased the Australian Automotive Network Exchange (AANX), a facility established by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries and local automotive suppliers and manufacturers. It will now be redeveloped by the Telstra e-Business Services team headed by David Brawn and the former InsNet management team, plus new management from the automotive industry.
Telstra Services Solutions MD Mike Foster says the new venture will allow automotive industry participants to conduct electronic transactions through the upgraded Telstra IP network. Some benefits of the new system will include applications such as e-trading, digital certificates, online data storage and email services.
“Telstra will partner with existing and new application and service providers to offer AANX members industry specific and cost-effective information and communications technologies,” Mr Foster said. “In addition, we aim to extend the online community to include more suppliers and customers in the auto dealer area, the auto after-market and other sectors of the automotive industry.”
