Tego steps in with cover for Indigenous clinic

Medical indemnity underwriter Tego has provided cover to an Indigenous-focused organisation that wants to set up a COVID-19 testing centre for the community.

The policy has no restriction on the novel coronavirus, Tego said in a statement today.

The testing centre, an initiative of the Federal Health Department, must have appropriate medical malpractice insurance in place before it can open but the Indigenous organisation’s existing insurer wanted exemptions on COVID-19 and SARS.

Tego subsequently stepped in to provide cover after it was approached by PSC Adelaide Account Director Duncan Jenkins.

“Our role is to help the community,” Tego CEO Eric Lowenstein said. “Without meeting the contractual insurance requirements, the clinic would have been unable to proceed with testing.

“We understand our market well and have deep knowledge of the industries and professions we underwrite, so we can provide coverage that’s tailored to clients’ needs.”
