Talbot’s new MD takes over

Former Catlin Australia chief Andrew Case started his new role as Talbot Underwriting Australia MD today.

As reported in a Breaking News update on Friday, he takes over the position vacated in August by Adam Matteson.

A spokesman for Talbot told insuranceNEWS.com.au Mr Case will spend an initial period getting to know the business.

Mr Case has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry and has established and led a number of businesses in Asia and Australia.

A former Willis executive director based in Perth, he was recruited by Catlin to set up Catlin Australia in 2004.

He was head of its Australian operations before last year’s merger with XL Group.

Following the merger he became the new group’s regional distribution director, based in Sydney, then left the company “by mutual agreement” in February.

Talbot says in a statement issued in London it is “committed to serving the Australian market and will continue to build out its capabilities in the region”.

Chief Underwriting Officer James Skinner says Mr Case’s appointment “will further drive Talbot’s plans to strengthen its international presence and expand its business lines in property, crisis management, financial lines and specialty.

“His experience and knowledge will be invaluable for our company and our clients as we continue to establish Talbot as a recognised leader in the region.”

Mr Matteson in now Property, Construction and Engineering Portfolio Manager at Suncorp.
