Suncorp to recruit 600 extra people to speed flood response

Suncorp says it will recruit more than 600 extra people to speed up flood recovery efforts as insurers continue to receive more claims from the Queensland and NSW catastrophe.

“We're expanding our teams right across the country, providing extra support to our customers affected by the floods and ensuring they get back on their feet as quickly as possible,” CEO Steve Johnston said.

“We are recruiting more than 600 extra people to speed the recovery process – from leaders in disaster response and event claims, event response co-ordinators, claims managers and customer service specialists.”

Suncorp says it expects to receive at least 45,000 claims from the catastrophe, which has extended from Gympie in Queensland to southern areas of Sydney.

“This is a huge event. It is the biggest event that Suncorp has ever faced in its history” Mr Johnston said last week.

“To give you some sense of the scale of the event, it is bigger than the combined Queensland 2011 floods, Cyclone Yasi, the Townsville floods and Cyclone Debbie put together.”

The postcodes with the most insurance claims in Queensland are Deagon, Aspley and Everton Park, Oxley and Caboolture, Suncorp says.
