Suncorp NZ signs up to electricity offset scheme

Suncorp New Zealand has signed up to Meridian Energy’s renewable energy certificates, which match electricity consumption with renewable energy generation.

Suncorp NZ is aiming to cut its emissions by 51% by 2030 and is targeting net-zero emissions by 2050.

EGM People Experience at Suncorp NZ Catherine Dixon says the insurer “has made great strides as a business in reducing our environmental impact”.

Almost all Suncorp NZ’s electricity will be certified under the scheme, which verifies that the electricity it consumes from the national grid is accounted for within Meridian‘s renewable energy production.

The agreement means Suncorp’s New Zealand business can now report its Scope 2 electricity emissions as zero.
