Suncorp NZ launches program to raise funds for cancer research

Suncorp says nearly 400 of its New Zealand employees will take part in activities throughout the next six weeks as part of its Spirit to Cure initiative to raise money for cancer research, support and prevention.

Suncorp says the employee-led initiative has already raised more than $NZ213,000 ($190,312.63) for Cancer Research Trust and Leukaemia & Blood Council, with the help of sponsors and support from industry and other business sectors, surpassing its $NZ200,000 target.

Auckland participants completed a 5000-step loop of Eden Park Stadium in Auckland on September 2 as part of the event’s festivities.

Other events are planned throughout major New Zealand cities, including a 5.2km walk through Otautahi Christchurch Adventure Park on September 30 and a 5200-stair hike of Sky Stadium in Wellington on October 13.

Suncorp New Zealand EGM Consumer Jane Brewer said she was honoured to push the initiative to help the “invaluable work” of the Cancer Research Trust and Leukaemia & Blood Council.

Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand Head of Support Services and Operations Emma Barker says the support “will help us continue our work in funding high quality blood cancer research” and aid relief for cancer patients.
