Suncorp New Zealand rejigs leader roles, appoints new tech chief

Suncorp New Zealand has made changes to the titles and accountabilities of several senior leaders and appointed Chris Robb to the role of EGM Technology.

CEO Jimmy Higgins says the overhaul marks a "culture shift right across our business, and a very different way of working together so we can be more responsive in an increasingly dynamic market”.

Among the tweaks, Campbell Mitchell – formerly EGM Customer, Brand and Distribution – is now Chief Customer Officer, accountable for all revenue for the general insurance brands, for growing intermediary, broker and partner relations, and for corporate affairs and sustainability.

Sacha Cowlrick, formerly EGM Insurance Solutions, is now EGM Business, while Jane Brewer, formerly EGM Technology and Transformation, is now EGM Consumer. Each is responsible for product design through to service and claims in their respective insurance portfolios.

Tom Hinds, former Strategy and Corporate Affairs Head, is now EGM Strategy & Transformation, while Grant Willis, formerly Head of Life, is now EGM Life.

The changes come after last year’s introduction of “scaled agile,” a new and more efficient delivery model for digital solutions, which the insurer says is faster and more responsive to customers' needs. A review of the operating model revealed opportunities to “realign the business to achieve better outcomes”.

“This is about being easier to do business with, for our customers, brokers and partners,” Mr Higgins said. “By organising ourselves and our teams to a new way of working, we can be more responsive to the changing market conditions and customer needs across our consumer, business and life insurance businesses.”

The scaled working model helps identify and prioritise work by breaking it down into smaller chunks.

"In a fast-paced environment, we must further enable the power of collaborative problem solving and high performance through cross functional teams putting customers first in every outcome,” Suncorp New Zealand said.
