Suncorp enters CTP market in ACT

Suncorp is to offer compulsory third-party (CTP) insurance in the ACT, giving motorists there a choice of providers for the first time since 1979.

Licences for subsidiaries AAMI, GIO and Apia will become effective from July 1; currently, NRMA is the only provider in the territory.

Suncorp says it decided to enter the market amid national reforms to personal injury classes and proposed changes in the ACT.

“We think now is the right time,” EGM Statutory Portfolio Chris McHugh told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “We are confident the environment there is conducive to reforms.”

Once new premiums are approved, vehicle registration renewal notices will include information on the range of CTP providers.

ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says her government is committed to improving the CTP scheme to emphasise rehabilitation and treatment.
