Suncorp appoints risk chief as headhunters seek a CEO
Ernst & Young Australia partner Andrew Harmer is taking up a six-month role as Suncorp Chief Risk Officer. He’ll stay in the role until a new CEO is recruited.
Former CEO John Mulcahy departed the company on March 2 and has been replaced in the interim by former CFO Chris Skilton – who will also leave the company when a successor is found.
Mr Skilton says his transition to acting CEO has allowed Suncorp to split the finance and risk components of the CFO role, creating the senior risk position.
“With market conditions continuing to be volatile, it is important that all organisations – including Suncorp – look for ways to continually improve their risk frameworks,” he said.
Suncorp spokesman Jamin Smith told insuranceNEWS.com.au the new CEO “will have the opportunity to put their own appointments in place when they come on board. Risk management is embedded across all of our business units and this role will sit across that.”
Mr Smith says recruitment for a new CEO is “progressing well”.
