Sydney-based underwriting agency Sterling Insurance is expanding its business to WA, with Director George Condell saying brokers working in the public liability and resource sectors are increasing.

The liability and property agency says there is a lot of business in this particular market to tap into. Initially a team of two will staff the Perth office, but Mr Condell says this will increase as the business grows.

“We decided it was time now to set up an office over in WA,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Mining and exploration specialist Martin Patterson has relocated to Perth to run the new office.

Mr Condell says Sterling still plans to expand to Melbourne in the future but “needs to find the right person for the job”.

“The key challenge in expanding to other states has always been getting the right people on the ground.”
