Snowball shuffles insurance chiefs

Suncorp CEO Patrick Snowball has put two proven performers in charge of the group’s commercial and personal lines insurance operations in his first significant change at the Brisbane-based bancassurer.

In a management reshuffle announced last week (reported in our Instant News bulletin), Mark Milliner has moved across from the commercial insurance arm to run the under-performing personal lines business. He replaces Bernadette Inglis, who is leaving the company.

Mr Milliner joined Suncorp in 1994 and became Group Executive of Commercial Insurance in 2006. He’s credited with managing a smooth realignment of the Suncorp, Vero and GIO operations since the Promina merger.

Now he’s charged with doing much the same for personal lines operations under many brands, including AAMI, Apia, Shannons, Just Car and InsureMyRide, as well as affiliated motoring group insurance operations in Australia and New Zealand.

Intermediated Distribution Executive GM Anthony Day has been promoted to replace Mr Milliner in the commercial lines arm.

He now has responsibility for the Suncorp, GIO and Vero brands in Australia, as well as the workers’ compensation and compulsory third party insurance businesses.

Mr Day joined Suncorp 18 months ago from Zurich Australia, where he ran the general insurance business. Andrew Mair, who worked with Mr Day at Zurich and joined Suncorp last year as Executive Manager Market Distribution, will act in Mr Day’s old position.

Mr Snowball said last week he also wanted a more senior manager for the group’s human resources area, and announced that Group Executive Strategy, People and Corporate Services Stuart McDonald would leave Suncorp.

Today he announced Mr McDonald’s replacement – former Commonwealth Bank human resources head Scott Alomes will start work at Suncorp next month.

Group executives David Foster (bank), Geoff Summerhayes (life), Jeff Smith (IT) and Roger Bell (Vero NZ) have been confirmed in their roles.
